Ford has announced that their F Series will have additional use of aluminum on body panels so as to ensure lighter weight. Lightweight Ford F Series pickup trucks which will make an entry into auto markets around the world by 2014 are likely to have newly designed aluminum fenders and door panels which will contribute to its lighter weight. Company spokespersons who have access to the new vehicle development have informed of this new development happening at Ford even though the company itself has not specifically divulged any details of its best selling model going the aluminum way.
Mr. Derrick Kuzak, Vice President of Global Production Development at Ford Group said that several lightweight models were being developed keeping in mind company policy to ensure reduction in weight by upto 700 pounds per model by the year 2019. Substituting steel for lightweight aluminum would contribute greatly to engine efficiency and fuel economy besides reducing auto emissions. Auto companies across the globe are experimenting with excessive use of aluminum in vehicles to contribute in preserving the environment and contributing their bit to reducing CO2 gases.
