While some alliances aren’t always fruitful, a Mahindra Reva electric vehicle (EV) will be introduced in the 18 months.  Chetan Maini, Mahindra Reva Electric Vehicle Chief of Technology and Strategy had this to say. “In the next 18 months, we will launch an M&M product with electric vehicle technology in India.” “We will gradually introduce a Reva electric car in all Mahindra outlets. Our plan is to have 50 outlets by end of this year and go up to 100 showrooms by the end of next year.” The announcement came on the sidelines of the SIAM annual summit in New Delhi.

M&M has already fitted cars with the proposed tech, and the vehicles are being tested. There is no clarification regarding which Mahindra vehicle the electric tech is being used on except that the vehicle that will go on commercial sale will be a car from the current M&M product portfolio.

Previously Mahindra had mentioned that the Scorpio SUV would be available with an electric fuel option, and the tech would later be used on other M&M vehicles. M&M acquired a majority stake in Reva in 2010. At present, the Reva (EV) is sold at 24 M&M showrooms and two of Reva’s own outlets. The idea of overseas distribution of Mahindra Reva electric vehicles being sold through M&M dealerships overseas is also being looked into. The ‘NXR’ model will be introduced in 2012 and thr’s plans for the ‘NXD’ model too. Production too is being increased from 3,000 units to 30,000 units with their 2nd production facility at Bangalore becoming operational.
