Mahindra S101 is XUV300? New spy shots of interiors show dash mounted gear lever
Mahindra’s upcoming EcoSport rival, the S101 has been spied on test near Chennai close to the company’s R&D Center at the Mahindra Research Valley. While till date, various exteriors were revealed, it is for the first time that the S101 interiors have been noted which draws attention to its dashboard mounted gear lever.
Mahindra’s upcoming SUV, codenamed S101 as on date, is reported to be named as XUV300 once launched. New spy shots of the S101 also reveal production ready body panels and headlights. Spotted on test again, S101 will feature dashboard mounted gearlever, allowing for more space in front passenger seat.
For those who do not prefer this kind of arrangement, there is still hope. Considering that the vehicle is still under test, there is a strong chance this kind of arrangement for the gear lever might not make it to the production variant.
Interiors also sport a new steering wheel design bearing much resemblance to that seen on the XUV500. To be launched with 5 seat configuration, Mahindra XUV300 will compete with the likes of Ford EcoSport once launched in 2015.
Mahindra S101 will be a sub 4 meter compact SUV and will be produced from the company’s upcoming plant in Cheyyar, Tamil Nadu. Production is slated to commence next year with engine specifications to include both petrol and diesel engine options.
Mahindra has already revealed that they are working on 6 new engines in association with SsangYong. For S101, they will use their 1.2 liter three cylinder petrol unit which will be economical and powerful. Mahindra S101 SUV will sit below Quanto and is expected to be priced from INR 5.5 lakhs to INR 8 lakhs.
