Mahindra is working on launching a new mini SUV in the Indian car market within the next 2-3 years. As of now the mini SUV from Mahindra is codenamed as S101 and once launched it will come with a price tag of approximately Rs 3 lacs – Rs 4 lacs.
Mahindra is also being helped by SsangYong in this project. Mahindra mini SUV, S101 will be launched in both petrol and diesel variants. The petrol variant will be powered by a 1.0L to 1.2L engine whereas the diesel variant will have the 1.5L engine.
Mahindra mini SUV S101 will be under 4 mtr in length and will be manufactured at Mahindra’s world class manufacturing facility in Chakan near Pune, from where the newly launched XUV500 is also being rolled out.
Report suggests that Mahindra started working on the new small car, S101 around a year back. It will be first of its kind mini SUV in Indian auto industry with equally good off-road and on-road capabilities. As of now, mini SUV’s in India are available at a premium price. Competitor to Mahindra S101 mini SUV will be Skoda Yeti, in the sub 4 meter SUV segment, which comes with a price tag of Rs 14 lacs.
Mr Rajan Wadhera, Chief Executive, Technology, Sourcing and Product development, stated on future plans, “Work on a new platform should be concluded very soon and it will be on the compact side.”
