Codename S101 will be powered by a 1.2 litre three cylinder petrol motor, expected to produce around 85 PS max. power. This is one of six engines Mahindra has teamed up with SsangYong to develop. Mahindra S101 diesel would be propelled by a sub 1.5 litre engine delivering around 90 PS.
Exteriors of the compact SUV are still not revealed. Front fascia looks just as bold as rest of Mahindra SUVs like Bolero, Scorpio and XUV 500. Headlamps look somewhat stylish but the intimidating essence of a Mahindra lies in front grille – air dam structure, which is not uncovered yet. S101 has a tall boy appeal, with sloping roofline that should not affect rear headroom. This sub-4 metre crossover has been plying with same horizontal three part tail lamps which appear to be for test purpose only.
Interiors of Mahindra S101 as spied earlier has simple looking dashboard and gear lever sprouting from the centre of it. It is unclear if the same will be seen in production version. Steering wheel looked similar to the one used in Mahindra XUV 500 and instrument cluster with LCD Multi Function Display (MFD) between speedo and tacho dials is believed to resemble the unit in Scorpio VLX. Rest of components in S101 looked rudimentary.
