Mahindra Scorpio Automatic discontinued – Only MT variants on offer

Mahindra Scorpio AT is no longer on sale in India. This was revealed by the company’s official twitter handle when a twitter user inquired about the same. Powered by 2,179cc, 4 cylinder mHawk diesel engines offering 120 bhp peak power at 4,000 rpm and 280 Nm torque at 1,800-2,800 rpm, Scorpio AT was same as the MT, except for the Automatic badges on its tail gate and at sides.

Offered in 7 and 8 seater variants, Mahindra Scorpio Automatic was loaded with feauters like touchscreen infotainment system, climate control and cruise control. Just like the MT variants, it also had projector headlights with LED daytime running lights, new radiator grille, body colored handles and 17” alloy wheels will also be evident while infotainment will be in the form of CD, DVD, USB, Aux-in and Bluetooth connectivity.

Scorpio AT also received a 6” touchscreen infotainment system, voice assist system and GPS navigation along with rain and light sensors. As far as safety is concerned, Mahindra Scorpio AT variants were offered with dual front airbags, ABS, EBD and anti-theft system along with engine immobilizer are to be seen. So why was such a fully loaded and equipped SUV discontinued from the market?

Well, the company has not revealed any reason. But if we had to guess, it could be due to the fact that Mahindra is currently working on a new generation 6 speed Aisin automatic transmission. This gearbox is expected to be seen on the Scorpio facelift, which is due for launch in the coming months.

This is the same gearbox which will also be seen on the next iteration of the XUV500, which will be heavy on performance, thanks to a more powerful engine under its hood. Yes, the new XUV500 will come with a 170 hp and 400 Nm engine.
