Mahindra Thar facelift has been introduced and the CRDe engined variant has a price of INR 8.03 lakhs (ex-showroom, Nashik). The new off-roader will be available in select markets from today.
As revealed by previous spyshots, Mahindra has introduced numerous subtle design revisions on the outside such as new front and rear bumpers, side steps, clear lens indicators, flared wheel arches and a redesigned canopy. The net effect renders a more purposeful stance.
Inside is where most of the changes are concentrated. The dashboard is all-new and features Bolero-style steering wheel, new triple pot instrument console, an upright dashboard with silver AC vents and redesigned AC controls. The 2016 Thar also boasts of new gear lever, handbrake, cup holders and redesigned seats.
Mechanically, the MM540-derived SUV benefits from a new mechanical locking rear differential which locks without driver intervention. This goes a long way in enhancing the vehicle’s already proven off-road prowess. With commendable approach and departure angles of 44-degree and 27-degree respectively, Thar can traverse pretty much every treacherous terrain that is thrown at it. Door trims and a lockable glove box are also new.
The new car gets mechanical locking differential.The 2.5-litre CRDe diesel engine produces 105 bhp and 247 Nm of torque when mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. This variant is offered with a standard 4WD system with low reduction gear. Lower variants employ 2.5-litre MDI diesel engine which puts out modest 63 bhp and 182.5 Nm of torque. The 5-speed manual gearbox sends power to the rear wheels and 4WD system is offered as an option.
The UV is available in five exterior color options – Red Rage, Fiery Black, Mist Silver, Diamond White and Rocky Beige.
