Mahindra to launch 3-4 new platforms over next three years
Mahindra & Mahindra will be introducing 3 to 4 new platforms in the coming three years. This was announced by Pawan Goenka, who was recently elevated to the position of Executive Director, Mahindra & Mahindra, from the post of President-Automotive & Farm Equipment. Most of these platforms will be used to build compact SUVs and UVs of the future.
However, not frayed by the competition, it was recently seen that their old horse, the Scorpio has emerged as best selling SUV in the segment for two straight months, overtaking sales of the Duster. During August, M&M sold a total of 3,356 units as compared to 2,967 units of Duster sold while in July sales of M&M Scorpio exceeded sales of Renault Duster by 150 units when M&M sold a total of 3,256 units of Scorpio as compared to 3,089 units of Duster sold.
With the company plan to bring in 3 to 4 new platforms also comes the decision to hike prices of their UV and tractor segment. This increase will be marginal but mandatory considering the weakening rupee and significant increase in commodity prices. Speaking about the new cars Mahindra is going to introduce, one of them is the S101 compact SUV. With under 4 meters in length, this one will compete with the likes of Ford EcoSport and yet to be launched Maruti XA Alpha, Honda and Hyundai compact SUVs. (S101 image credit : Motor Vikatan)
