Mahindra working on 6 new engines in association with SsangYong
Keen to expand presence in High End Sports Utility Vehicle category, Mahindra & Mahindra, along with their South Korean company, SsangYong are set to introduce a series of six engines over a period of two to three years.
The announcement of jointly developing these six engines was made at the recent launch of Rexton RX6 SUV in Pune. But M&M has not made public as to whether these engines will be diesel or petrol engine or whether production operations will be undertaken in India or Korea.
The newly launched SsangYong Rexton RX6 is priced at Rs 19.75 lakh ex-showroom Pune and competes with Toyota Fortuner and Hyundai Santa Fe. Rexton RX6 comes in with 2.7L RX270 XDi engine mated to 5 speed manual transmission and brand new features and will be in addition to the existing model range of Rexton that is seeing good response in the country.
Features on board the new Rexton RX6 includes premium leather upholstery, electric sunroof, 8 way electrically adjustable driver seat with memory function and automatic headlights. The SUV also gets 4×4 torque on demand system and will instantly appeal to customers desirous of these exclusive features.
The SsangYong Rexton range sold about 1850 units in 2013-14 which has made it the second best selling brand in the high end SUV segment. First is Toyota Bharat.
