Mahindra working on new platforms for SUVs and LCVs

Mahindra & Mahindra, one of India’s most trusted names in the utility vehicle segment, is currently working on new platforms for their future products. These new platforms once finalized will serve as the foundation for next generation of Scorpio, Bolero and Xylo.

Mahindra Research Valley, the R&D wing of Mahindra which is credited with design and development of XUV5OO, Verito and Quanto, is at present in the process of developing four new vehicle platforms for the Indian market.

M&M will be launching new models based on these newly developed platforms which will include Utility Vehicles, Sports Utility Vehicles and Small and Light Commercial Vehicles. These should be ready by end of 2015 and are slated for launch by early 2016. All models in  sub 3.5 tonne range are developed at Mahindra Research Valley while those above 3.5 tonnes are developed at company’s R&D Center in Pune.

The new platforms are being developed for future Mahindra cars, which will ensure that M&M maintains their leadership position. Mahindra is planning to launch a compact SUV on the lines of the much acclaimed XUV500 which could compete with Ford EcoSport. Mahindra Scorpio is also heading for a facelift with improved interiors which will make its way into markets by 2014, while a new LCV is also being worked on and to be readied by 2016, to target a range of products from Tata Motors.
