Mahindra XUV Aero makes international debut in Barcelona

The Mahindra XUV Aero crossover coupe concept which was unveiled at the 2016 Auto Expo, has now been revealed to an international audience at the Automobile Barcelona Show in Spain.

Local media reports that the stylish concept from the Indian automaker has received positive response from the audience, thanks to its dynamic silhouette and premium appeal. Even in India, when the car was unveiled, it had met a similar crowd response. Sadly, it is not clear whether Mahindra will launch this concept or not.

As per a report, Mahindra does plan to launch this car. In fact, the company is aiming that the production model to be priced in the vicinity of around INR 20 lakhs. That’s a significant premium over the regular XUV500 it’s based on and we expect Mahindra to justify the price difference by adding a lot more goodies.

Penned by the automaker’s Mumbai-based design studio with inputs from Italy’s Pininfarina (now under Mahindra’s umbrella), the XUV Aero concept is a sportier interpretation of the popular XUV500. The front fascia has a strong resemblance to the 7-Seat SUV but receives new elements like LED headlamps, vertical LED daytime running lights and honeycomb meshed air dams.

The striking is characterized by a swooping roofline and corresponding greenhouse. The concept’s suicide type rear doors do away with B-Pillar but we expect the production model to adopt a conventional arrangement.

It’s safe to assume that the Mahindra XUV Aero will derive its 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine and 6-speed manual transmission from the XUV500 but will offer significantly more power (concept has 210 PS on tap and does 0-100 in 6 seconds). The objective of the model is to act as a brand shaper for Mahindra. Expect it to be ready sometime in 2019.
