Mahindra XUV500 sales cross 1.5 lakh units

The cheetah inspired Mahindra XUV500 has added yet another feather to its list, achieving sales of 150,000 in 48 months. First launched back in September 2011, the SUV was an instant hit. The response was so overwhelming that Mahindra had to launch lottery system in order to allocate booking orders.

At the time of launch, Mahindra had capacity to produce 2,500 units of XUV500 every month, but the rise in demand pushed them to increase the output to 4,000 per month, which brought the waiting periods down significantly.

Now into its fifth year, the XUV500 still enjoys a decent place in the SUV segment. Priced in a range of INR 11.29 lakh to INR 16.20 lakh, it is powered by a 2.2l mHawk diesel engine generating 140 bhp and 330 Nm torque. Mated to a manual gearbox, apart from the FWD option, you can also opt for a AWD variant.

Also one of the most feature-rich cars on offer in the segment, Mahindra had updated the XUV500 earlier this year in May. Featuring new LED DRLs with projector headlights, fog lamp structure, new chrome grille, alloys, and bumper design. Engine remained same, but it had been tuned to deliver more mileage. As compared to the old XUV500 (15.1 kmpl), new one delivered 16 kmpl.
