Mahindra XUV500 SUV sales cross 50,000 in 16 months

This makes Mahindra XUV500 the fastest selling SUV in the segment in India. The achievement is even more commendable, considering the fact that during the past 16 months, Indian auto industry has registered a decline in growth rate.

Mahindra began working on XUV500 in 2007. The idea behind this Cheetah inspired SUV was to develop a car that will not only be good enough for Indian roads, but will also be able to compete on a global level. The success of XUV500 was proved within the first 10 days, when the company revealed that they have received 8,000 bookings. The demand was such that Mahindra resorted to open booking slots of 10 days for Mahindra XUV500. By the time, the booking window opened again in Jan 2012, Mahindra received over 25,000 booking requests. As they could allot only 7,200 XUV500′s, they selected the names via lucky draw and revealed the names of lucky winners online.

Within the first year since launch, Mahindra delivered 35,000 XUV500′s while 14,000 bookings were pending to be delivered. Today, Mahindra XUV is not only available in India, but also in other countries around the globe, like South Africa, Italy and Australia, while work is in progress to launch the XUV500 in many more countries.
