Mahindra XUV5OO is finally launched in India, well almost. From the 1st October, which is today, Mahindra will start accepting bookings for their new XUV5OO. Being a phased launch, Mahindra dealerships in just 5 Indian cities will be accepting bookings for XUV5OO. These cities are Pune, Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi and Mumbai.

As promised, Mahindra has flooded XUV5OO (O pronounced as the English alphabet O and not as in the numerical 0) with number of features and equipments. In fact many people will be amazed with the fact that XUV5OO is a Mahindra product.

To start with, there is this 6” touchscreen infotainment system which will be all in one device for GPS, CD, MP3, DVD, FM, USB, iPod connectivity and driver information system. Then there is the microhybrid technology which helps this huge vehicle achieve ARAI certified mileage of 15.1 kmpl.

Mahindra XUV5OO is also equipped with automatic temperature control, LED parking lights, projector headlamps, voice commands, light sensors, rain sensors, tire pressure sensors, parking assist, electronically adjustable and foldable ORVM’s, and audio and cruise controls on the steering wheel.

On the safety front, one can say that Mahindra XUV5OO is the safest Mahindra SUV manufactured till date. Equipped with safety features like, ESP – Electronic Stability Program, Rollover Mitigation, Hill Descent Control, Hill Hold Control, EBD – Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, in all 6 airbags fitted in the front, side and curtain.

After driving Mahindra XUV5OO at the Mahindra test track in Chakan, we feel that this is also the best Mahindra SUV ever to be manufactured. Thanks to the new 2.2L mHawk engine generating max power of 140 bhp and max torque of 330Nm, XUV5OO shoots from 0-60kmph in just 5.4 seconds. One of the Mahindra employees we spoke to, said that his personal best topspeed on XUV5OO is 170 kmph. He added that even at such speeds the car was stable and an even higher top speed is possible with XUV500.

XUV5OO handles curves and slopes exceptionally well. In the All Wheel Drive, Mahindra has stated that the SUV will be able to tackle the toughest of terrains. Interactive Torque Management System allows the car to intelligently shift torque between front and rear wheels. From the outside, the car looks good. But we still feel that the tires could have been better looking, somehow the tires don’t fit the look of XUV5OO.

Mahindra XUV5OO is not being manufactured to full capacity as of now. Mahindra stated that for now they will be manufacturing a maximum of 2000 units of XUV5OO monthly and as and when the demand increases, they will plan on increasing production, which will happen soon as XUV5OO is just awesome for a price tag like that.

Mahindra XUV5OO is available in a choice of 7 colors, Dolphin Grey, Volcano Black, Moondust Silver, Amazon Green, Opulent Purple, Tuscan Red, and Satin White. XUV5OO will be available in 3 exciting variants – XUV5OO W6, XUV5OO W8 2WD, and XUV5OO W8 AWD for a price of Rs 10.8 lacs, Rs 11.95 lacs and Rs 12.88 lacs respectively.

These are introductory prices and Mahindra plans on revising these rates within the next 2-3 months. Our verdict is that if you are looking for a big car in the Rs 10-12 lacs range, Mahindra XUV5OO is the right choice. Go for it, before the prices are revised.
