Mahindra’s nano SUV, S101 spied again
Probably the Nano of India’s SUV segment, the upcoming compact SUV, codenamed S 101 from Mahindra stables has been spotted on test in India. Expected to be a class leader both where mileage and interior space is concerned, S101 from Mahindra is being developed along with SsangYong, the Korean brand taken over by Mahindra.
Mahindra S101, compact SUV will be a sub 4 meter model which will attract lower excise duty benefits and is likely to get a new 1.2L petrol engine and a sub 1.5L diesel engine. S101 will be priced so attractively that it may have the lowest ever price tag seen on an SUV of its category. Set to arrive in markets in 2015, S101 is to be built on the same Mahindra monocoque chassis developed by Mahindra engineers which was seen for first time on XUV500.
Other features on board the S101 will include auto climate control, steering mounted controls and infotainment system. Safety features will include ABS, EBD, 4 airbags and ESP. Interior space will be at a premium. If rumors are to be believed, this sub compact SUV will receive the name of XUV300 and will be positioned below the company’s XUV500. An automatic gearbox variant of the XUV500 is also in the making as is the Scorpio facelift, both of which will be making their presence felt in India.
S101 will be produced from the new Rs 4,000 crore Mahindra facility coming up in Tamil Nadu. Once launched, S101 will compete with Ford EcoSport.
