Maruti Suzuki to launch new Alto K10 to compete with Datsun Go
Maruti Suzuki, India’s leading auto manufacturer, is all set for launch of a new hatchback in the country in the form of Alto K10 facelift. To make its official launch in India by 2015, new Alto K10 will take on various design cues from Celerio which has proved to be a major success while it will also feature automated manual transmission (AMT) technology.
The new Alto K10 could launch by January 2015 and will be redesigned inside and out with contemporary features and AMT auto gear technology. Besides being launched in India, Alto K10 will also be exported to markets such as Africa and South America while it will compete with Datsun Go and Hyundai Eon.
It could be a 998cc engine seen under the hood of the new Alto K10 churning out 68 Ps peak power and 90 Nm peak torque while it could also receive a new aluminium 1.0 liter K Series engine doing duty on the Celerio, mated to a 5 speed manual and AMT transmission.
Maruti has already started testing the new K10. You can have a look at the spyshots here.
Maruti Suzuki imports AMT kits from Magneti Marelli from Italy. Extensive demand of AMT gearbox for Celerio has resulted in the company being unable to copy which has led to extended waiting periods. Now with the new Alto K10 also coming in with AMT unit, availability could be a constraint which could be tackled with Magneti Marelli planning on setting up production base in Manesar in the coming year.
