Maruti Celerio booking figures proves AMT is super-hit
Launched at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo, Maruti Celerio is India’s first car to be offered with an Automatic Manual Transmission or simply, AMT. In the two weeks since launch, Maruti has garnered over 14,000 bookings for their new small hatchback, Celerio. Of which, more than 7,700 units are for the AMT variant!
Before launching the AMT Celerio, Maruti had not expected such a stupendous success for the AMT variant. They now reveal that they had expected about 25-30% of the total bookings for the AMT, but getting more than 50% was something they had not expected, especially considering the fact that car buyers in India are not used to AMTs, reveals Financial Express.
AMT is basically a manual gearbox with a mind of it’s own. It has sensors which keeps a track of how hard have you pressed the accelerator pedal, and what is the engine rpm. Depending on these two majorly, the AMT’s brain upshifts or downshifts just like an automatic gearbox, though the shifts are not as smooth.
The beauty of AMT is that it gives equally good comforts of an automatic transmission, and at the same time is as fuel efficient as the manual, and cheaper than the automatic gearbox. Maruti Celerio price starts from Rs 3.76 lakh for manual transmission and from Rs 4.14 lakh. Image gallery of Celerio can be found here.
