Maruti Celerio EZ Drive gear stalk spied: Bookings open
Maruti Suzuki will be introducing its new hatchback Celerio (codenamed YL7) with AMT technology at the 2014 Auto Expo. Bookings of the new Celerio are now being taken at Maruti dealerships across India for a sum of Rs 20,000.
Maruti Celerio with AMT- Automated Manual Transmission will replace A Star in India and compete with the likes of Hyundai i10. AMT is a type of manual transmission that negates use of a clutch while changing gears. In this technology it is an electronic control unit and hydraulic system which act in conjuncture to control clutch and change gears thereby bringing to the fore sequential or automatic shifting of gears.
AMT technology is not only more cost effective but also easier to use, which are the two factors Maruti Suzuki will be banking on when the Celerio makes its debut. Once proved a success, the automakers could also be extending AMT technology into their existing lineup of both hatchbacks and sedans in the future as it is more fuel efficient and cheaper than automatic transmission.
