Maruti Celerio sales cross 1.3 lakh, gets optional Airbags and ABS

Maruti Celerio was launched at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo. India’s first car to feature an AMT gearbox, Celerio was an instant hit. AMT option gave people the option to buy an automatic car, thanks to lower price and high fuel efficiency.

Over the last 21 months, Maruti has launched a CNG variant and a diesel variant of the Celerio. Their total sales have crossed the 1.3 lakh mark; making Celerio India’s top 10 selling cars.

Sadly, such a high selling car lacked basic safety features. Except for the top-end variants, the remaining variants did not get airbags or ABS. But that was until today.

Today, Maruti Suzuki announced that all variants of Celerio will now be offered with optional safety features of dual front airbags and ABS. This announcement comes a week after the company announced the launch of similar safety features on board Swift and Dzire models.
