Maruti Ciaz reveals itself in black colour, without camouflage

So where does India’s largest car maker – Maruti Suzuki stand in this? Well for the past few months, not even at the bottom. Since Maruti Suzuki has already discontinued their SX4 sedan, they don’t have a competitor for New Honda City diesel and Hyundai Verna. But, not for long!

Maruti Suzuki will soon offer their customers the new Ciaz sedan, which premiered as a concept at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo. Ciaz will replace now defunct Maruti SX4 in the segment and will take on the above mentioned rivals, along with the likes of Volkswagen Vento, New Nissan Sunny, Renault Scala, etc.

To be offered in a choice of petrol and diesel engine variants, the new Maruti Suzuki Ciaz sedan will only be offered in a choice of manual transmission for diesel engine, and a manual and CVT auto gearbox for the petrol engine options. As far as AMT option is concerned, Maruti wants to launch the Ciaz as a premium entry level mi sized sedan, and thus no AMT will be offered.

For engine options, you will have the 1,373 cc petrol engine generating 95 PS power at 6,000 rpm and 130 Nm torque at 4,000 rpm. This variant is expected to deliver a mileage of 17 kmpl with manual transmission and 15 kmpl with CVT transmission. As far as diesel engine option is concerned, Maruti will again rely on Fiat’s 1,248 cc diesel engine generating 90 PS power at 4,000 rpm and 200 Nm torque at 1,750 rpm.

Apart from India, China will also get the Ciaz sedan. In fact, China will be the first country to receive Ciaz sedan, judging from the spy shots seen (credit to China’s Auto Home). The spy shots here are of Suzuki Alivio, that is what it will be called in China.
