Maruti Ciaz safety improved as ISOFIX mounts now standard

After forgettable experiences in the premium segment with the SX4, Grand Vitara, Kizashi, Maruti finally managed to break the jinx with its Ciaz. The Maruti Ciaz which was launched solely to break the strong-hold of Honda City and Hyundai Verna in the segment, has managed to achieve just that.

Earlier this year, Maruti Suzuki announced that the cumulative domestic sales of Ciaz have surpassed the 1 lakh mark. The best-selling car in the segment will now come with an added safety feature as standard. Maruti Suzuki will offer ISOFIX mounts on rear seats.

Until now, only premium cars used to get the ISOFIX mounts as standard in India. Ciaz is also the first Maruti to come with this feature. ISOFIX is a globally accepted mount to attach child seats. This improves child safety.

The Ciaz which caters to the mid-size sedan segment in country has been performing consistently since its launch, thanks to an attractive styling, well built interior, spacious rear seats, good equipment package and of course, fuel efficient engines.

In last September, Maruti updated the Ciaz diesel with SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) mild hybrid system which provided a definitive edge over its competitors. In the first five months of 2016, the Ciaz managed to outsell its primary rival Honda City twice.

When it comes to average monthly sales, the City managed a figure of around 5,500 units in the first five months of this year. The Ciaz is not far behind with an average of 5,400 units. The mild hybrid variant’s reduced excise duty and FAME subsidy from the government have helped the Ciaz register strong growth this year.

The growing anti-diesel mentality doesn’t seem to have affected the Ciaz like it did in the case of its rivals. Honda found it challenging to respond quickly to the sudden change in preference from diesel to petrol for the City.
