The engine is expected to arrive in India within the next year for testing and improvisation. This will definitely be a blessing for Maruti Suzuki India whose sales are on the decline due the invasion of new small cars in the Indian auto industry. Small cars constitute 45% of the total car sales in India. This is also the segment which has helped Maruti to continue as the undisputable leader in India.
Maruti’s small diesel engine will be seen in next generation A Star or Alto, both of which have made a major impact in the country. Suzuki is hoping that this new E2 diesel engine lives up to expectations where fuel efficiency and higher level of performance are concerned, which is sure to make this engine a winner in India. According to an anonymous company source, this diesel engine will only be ready by 2015.
