Maruti workers strike at Manesar plant in Haryana entered its 10th day today and there is no sight of respite. In fact, 65 workers unions from Gurgaon-Manesar belt will be joining Maruti workers agitation tomorrow when they too show their support by observing a 2 hour tool-down strike.
More than 50,000 workers will stop working tomorrow for 2 hours in order to show their support for their colleagues at Maruti Suzuki Manesar unit.
An official from the Haryana Labour Dept., said, “The demand to reinstate all 11 terminated employees is the biggest bone of contention, with both parties not relenting.” It was revealed yesterday that Maruti Suzuki is ready to recognize the new union but has kept mum on the reinstating of the 11 workers which were fired on 4th June.
Mr Shiv Kumar, GS, Maruti Suzuki Workers Union, said, “If Maruti takes back all 11 workers, we are willing to end the strike.” Maruti has suffered losses worth more than Rs 450 crores.
Mr S Y Siddiqui, Managing Executive Officer, HR and Administration, MSI, said, “There could be possibilities of having individual plant unions with an umbrella governing council that has representatives from local plant’s union. Our firm approach of mutual dialogue is on.”
