Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) has recalled 6000 Alto's that were manufactured in April this year. These cars were leaking oil through engine causing starting problems. To rectify this Maruti has told its network of 800 sales centers and over 2700 service centers around India to rectify and fix affected Alto's. When spoke to MSI, their spokesperson replied in negative saying, "The vehicle, if affected, may show some starting problems. This can be easily repaired at the workshop."

This fault in Alto comes exactly after a year of Maruti recalled one lakh A Star variants for a defect in fuel pumps. Between April and June, Maruti have manufactured 64,500 units of which some have been exported to Sri Lanka and Nepal. Maruti is still not sure of how many Alto's are affected.

According to experts, Alto is probably facing this problem because Maruti did not upgrade Alto's engine properly. When Alto's engine was upgraded to BSIV, Maruti must have missed some minor issue which has resulted in current problem.
