Maruti S Cross to sport diesel engine only, Ciaz production begins
Maruti S Cross compact crossover has been spied testing again and along with sharing of pictures, sources claim that an insider in Maruti Suzuki India Limited has revealed engine spec of same vehicle.
New crossover from Maruti Suzuki S Cross will supposedly be powered by diesel engines only, with option of 1.3 litre and 1.6 litre units. Reason for not offering petrol engine as option is given as relatively low sales compared to variants with diesel hearts in compact SUV segment.
Said engines to run Maruti S Cross are a 1.6 litre engine (possibly Peugeot DV6 HDi engine with Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VGT)) producing 110 hp maximum power and a 1.3 litre MultiJet oil burner in 90 HP tune. Latter engine is seen in Maruti SX4 and Ertiga MPV. In international markets, Suzuki S Cross is sold with 1.6 litre MultiJet diesel engine sourced from Fiat. It is doubtful if Maruti Suzuki will do the same for Indian S Cross, expected to launch in February 2015.
Meanwhile, production of Maruti Ciaz petrol version has commenced, as per source; diesel model to enter production shortly. Maruti Ciaz, the SX4 sedan replacement is also believed to share same diesel engine options from S Cross crossover mentioned above. Petrol trim will host 1.4 litre K Series engine doing duty in maruti Ertiga, producing 95 PS max. power and 130 Nm peak torque.
Launch of Maruti Ciaz would take place in September 2014, to rival against Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Volkswagen Vento, Skoda Rapid, Fiat Linea and Ford Fiesta.
