Maruti’s Nissan Terrano rival, SX4 S-Cross interiors revealed
Showcased at 2014 Auto Expo, the Maruti Suzuki SX4 S Cross Crossover was spied on test in Manali recently. All car makers in India test their cars in the Himalayan terrain to ensure that their product is rugged and adapts to Indian weather conditions.
The new Maruti Suzuki SX4 S Cross is the company’s first offering in the crossover SUV segment and was snapped while on test to reveal some details of its exterior and interior details.
Maruti Suzuki S Cross is expected to be powered by a 1.6 liter diesel engine offering 118 bhp power and 32 kgm peak torque mated to a 6 speed manual gearbox. A petrol engine option in the form of a 1.6 liter petrol engine producing 120 PS and 156 Nm torque mated to a 5 speed manual and CVT transmission is also planned. In international markets, the SX4 S Cross receives Suzuki’s Allgrip front wheel drive, but this is not confirmed for the model to be launched in India.
Speaking about the interiors of the new S Cross for India, they are very similar to the one’s on offer in Europe. It is quite clear that with the SX4 S Cross, Maruti is trying to trying to enter a niche segment of the auto industry.
Maruti Suzuki S Cross abounds in safety features which results in its 5 star rating in Euro NCAP safety tests. Based on the SX4 platform, the new SX4 S Cross will be seen with LED daytime running lights, 16” alloy wheels and scuff plates and black claddings.
It will measure 4300 mm in length, 1765 mm in width and 1575 mm in height and will sit on a 2600 mm wheelbase while ground clearance stands at 170mm. Once launched in India, the new SX4 S Cross will compete with others in its class such as the Renault Duster, and Nissan Terrano, besides the Hyundai ix25 which is also expected to be launched in 2015. Price of SX4 S Cross is expected to be in the Rs 13-14 lakh range.
