The new plant of Maruti Suzuki India coming up at Bechraji, Mehsana district of North Gujarat with an investment of Rs 4,000 crores, is scheduled for commission by mid 2015. This news was revealed by the company’s Chief Operating Officer, Mr S Y Siddiqui, at the FGI Expo 2013 Agro & Auto Summit.
It was further stated that this new plant at Bechraji, once in operation will have the capacity to manufacture 7.5 lakh vehicles per annum in first phase. The two Maruti Suzuki plants in Gurgaon and Manesar have capacity of 14.5 lakh cars per annum. These two plants, coupled with the Bechraji plant will ensure that production of Maruti Suzuki tops the 20 lakh per annum mark.
Special attention will be paid to diesel engined vehicles especially since the company is experiencing heavy demand for the same. Waiting lists of diesel cars has increased thus ensuring that Maruti Suzuki steps up supply. To ensure additional skilled manpower for this purpose, Maruti Suzuki will also be setting up 4 to 5 institutes in Gujarat. The company has a partnership with Industrial Training Institute with a plan to set up a total of 50 such institutes for training of skilled labor, out of which 11 have already been set up.
