Maruti Suzuki India Limited has announced their intentions to get their Manesar Plant back on track with a new recruitment drive. The company intended to take on trained workers for the plant in place of 500 odd permanent workers who were fired following July 18th catastrophes. However, the drive has come up against a road block. This is causing a delay in the company keeping to their deadline of starting full fledged production by end of September.

MSIL has conducted one round of written tests but are finding that the class of candidates is not upto the mark, or not really interested. The company has also announced that they will be opting for 99% of automation so as to ensure fewer workforces which will in turn ensure better quality of their vehicles.

Family members of the sacked workers are planning a silent protest to demand reinstatement and will be taking their protests to a mini secretariat on September 21. This demonstration will be supported by over 30 trade unions both in Gurgaon and Manesar who are not only demanding reinstatement of sacked workers but a fair trial for those who have been arrested following July 18th violence.
