Maruti Swift special edition launch celebrates 30 lakhs global sales

Sales of Suzuki Swift have crossed the 30 lakhs mark back in January 2013. Of the total global sales of Swift, India accounts for 45% or 1.35 million (13.50 lakhs). In order to celebrate this achievement, Maruti Suzuki India has launched an all new edition of Swift, called Swift Star.

Swift Star will be offered with a DDiS diesel engine.

In India, the Swift is amongst its best selling cars. For 2012, Swift was the second best seller, after Maruti Suzuki Alto 800. Swift in India is powered by a 1.3 liter Multijet diesel engine offering 74 bhp peak power and 190 Nm torque while its 1.2 liter petrol engine belts out 86 bhp power and 114 Nm torque. Power is supplied to front wheels via 5 speed manual gearbox. Out of the 30 lakh units of Swift sold globally, 13% were sold to Japanese markets while 23% of the sales were in Europe and 45% were in India.

The Indian auto markets are in a sluggish state of affairs and hence auto companies are offering heavy cash discounts and promising immediate deliveries to boost sales. Maruti Suzuki have also offered cash discounts on their Swift hatchback minus any waiting period, for the first time since its launch..
