Maruti SX4 S-Cross makes spy shot debut in India with full black cloak
S-Cross is Maruti’s entrée into Crossover segment and unlike other infamous stories where B segment hatchbacks are given rugged looking makeover and rolled out as Cross versions, Maruti’s candidate is a fully functional one that will compete with bigger players in the segment. A test mule of SX4 S-Cross was spotted in Manali covered with camouflage. Launch of S-Cross is expected early next year (2015).
SX4 S-Cross is yet another ambitious step by Maruti as word around says it will be priced between Rs. 13 and 14 lakhs. Although S-Cross may come with full load of features to trump its competitors, there is a good chance that S-Cross might end up as next Grand Vitara. The rivals it will poke include some variants of Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano and Mahindra XUV 500.
As it is closely related to SX4 sedan, you would notice common components such as controls and switch gears while crossover specific features like underbody cladding, scuff plates and larger alloy wheels (say 16-inch) will give it an individualistic appeal. LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL) will also be included in S-Cross.
The chunky looking crossover of Maruti’s is expected to swallow a 1.6 litre diesel power plant that produces 118 bhp max. power and 320 Nm peak torque, sourced from Fiat, and mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. Suzuki’s Allgrip 4×4 option is still doubted, but Renault will certainly equip Duster with 4WD in few months.
