McLaren P1 production begins (Photos)
The McLaren P1 hybrid super car has been previewed, tempted and teased for the past 12 months. Finally, the production of McLaren most advanced and powerful car has begin as it has entered production. A set on nine images have been revealed, giving us a glimpse into how it is made.
From the images here, the production center in Woking resembles a NASA satellite station rather than a car plant, but it needs to be remembered that it is a high tech car such as the P1 which is being produced here and hence needs a greater amount of attention.
McLaren P1 comes with a carbon fiber chassis and hybrid powertrain. It receives a 3.8 liter twin turbocharged V8 engine along with an electric motor due to which power figures stand at 903 hp while torque goes all the way upto 664 lb/ft. The engine is mated to a 7 speed dual clutch transmission and the upcoming model can sprint from 0 to 100 kmph in below 3 seconds and reach a top speed of 350 kmph.
Though coming in at a base price of $1 million, it should be mentioned that McLaren P1 is limited to just 375 units and has already been confirmed that most of these have already been sold in the US, Asia and Middle East while only models set aside for Europe’s buyers.
