Mercedes AMG GT engine output details revealed in a new video
Mercedes Benz AMG GT is expected to be unveiled either at the German Grand Prix in Hockenheim on 20th July, and if not there, then at the 2014 Paris Motor Show, which will be open its doors from October 4, 2014. Whichever is the case, the first official details of Mercedes AMG sports car is out.
The 2016 Mercedes AMG GT will sport a potent 4.0 liter twin turbocharged V8 engine, reveals the new video uploaded by none other than Mercedes Benz. The video not only shows this engine, but also drew attention to its technical details and performance to be seen on board the front engined sports car.
Slated to enter showrooms by March 2015, the new Mercedes AMG GT with its 3,982 cc V8 engine will take on the Porsche 911, Jaguar F Type Coupe and Aston Martin Vantage. The engine will be capable of 510 PS peak power at 6,250 rpm and 650 Nm peak torque at between 1,750 rpm and 4,750 rpm, sent to its rear wheels via a 7 speed transaxle transmission with dual clutch.
This engine will allow the AMG GT to accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in under four seconds. The engine also features zirconium coated cylinder heads, aluminum forged pistons and active engine mounts. Low friction four groove belt, high pressure fuel pump and dual mass fly wheel will also be present.
Codenamed M178 as on date, the Euro 6 compliant engine has a dry weight of 209 kgs and takes advantage of light weight pistons and twin camshaft while its zirconium alloy allows for optimal temperature and thermal conductivity. It is this same engine that will also make its way to upcoming C63 AMG, but it will be seen first on board the AMG GT going on sale by March 2015.
