Mercedes-Benz’ new series of short films brings viewers closer to the F1 experience. It’s the first time you will see on-board footage of a turbocharged, V6, 2014 Formula One car. The MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS F1 W05 of Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton is closer than ever before to fans through an innovative 360 degree filming technology.
Filmed at Silverstone Circuit in high definition, 6 cameras recorded 40 frames per second, the footage follows Nico Rosberg. If viewed online, online, camera angles need to be controlled with your mouse. This is the first F1 season wherein 1.6-litre, V6 Power Units have replaced the V8 engines. The footage on offer was recorded during the first test of the new 2014 challenger that begins the 2014 season at the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne on March 16.
There’s also footage of Lewis Hamilton taking to the track at the wheel of an E 63 AMG S Estate before being chased down by an E 63 AMG S Saloon. A 3rd film follows Nico Rosberg on track in the E 63 AMG S Estate drifting (and tests the durability of the rear tyres).
The footage can be downloaded for free via the App Store. ‘F1 360’ works well with gyroscopic sensors in the iPad that tracks your movements and alters camera angle accordingly.
