Update: Mercedes Benz B Class India launch price Rs 21.49 lakhs onward: Mercedes Benz concept B Class Electric Drive at 2012 Paris Motor Show

Update: The Mercedes Benz B Class sports tourer launch in India is one that lets the luxury automaker mark it’s entry in a new market segment. Mr Debashis Mitra, Sales & Marketing, Director, Mercedes Benz India launched the new B Class in India at an event in Mumbai today. At the event, he added that all the B Class for allocated for 2012, (250 units) are sold out. So if you are interested and want to book the new B Class, you will be in queue form January 2013.

New Mercedes Benz B Class gives an ARAI certified mileage of 14.8 kmpl. It also features attention assist and engine ECO start/stop technology which helps the new Mercedes Benz sports tourer achieve this impressive mileage. Mercedes Benz B Class will be available in one engine with two options, B180 and B180 Sport. Both powered by 1.6L petrol engine generating 122 bhp and 200 Nm torque and with a top speed of 190 kmph. Price of Mercedes Benz B Class B180 is at Rs 21.49 lakhs while that of B180 Sport is 24.87 lakhs. All prices are ex-showroom, Mumbai. No diesel model on offer as of now, may be next year third quarter. The only difference that will affect the performance between the B180 and its sport variant is the tyre size, B180 wears 205/55 R16 whereas B180 Sport runs 225/45 R17.

Apart from this, Mercedes Benz will be adding a new feather in its cap when Paris Motor Show opens its doors at end of this month. This new addition will be in form of an electric vehicle and one of the first to be seen with words ‘Electric Drive’ added to its name from stables of Mercedes Benz. This B Class Electric Drive will be fitted with a 100 kW 134 hp electric motor producing 310 Nm torque. It is capable of a drive range of 200 kms on full charge while its battery is capable of being charged from any standard domestic 230V power socket or process can be speeded up when charged at a 400V high voltage terminal.

The vehicle possesses Energy Space at the floor of the vehicle ahead of rear axle wherein its lithium ion battery is placed added to vehicles centre of gravity. B Class Electric Drive is a family oriented electric vehicle. It is set to go into production while should be ready to be seen in markets by early 2014. Mercedes Benz B Class Electric Drive will be showcased along with concept versions of electric SLS AMG and Smart Brabus cars.

B Class Electric Drive
