Mercedes Benz C Class Diesel with 60% localization launched at Rs 37.90 lakhs

Promising localization to the tune of 60 percent, local production of the new Mercedes Benz C Class Diesel commences three months after its debut in the country. The locally made C 220 CDI price starts from Rs 37.90 lakhs.

As the first Mercedes Benz C220 CDI rolled off assembly lines at their Chakan plant, Eberhard Kern, Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India and Piyush Arora, Executive Director, Operations, Mercedes-Benz India were there to celebrate the milestone. To be on sale at all company dealerships across the country, Mercedes Benz C Class is also ‘2015 World Car of the Year’.

With local production allowing Mercedes Benz to cater to the needs of demanding customers in India, Mercedes Benz C220 CDI luxury sedan has the company’s most experienced team working on its production. It is powered by a 4 cylinder diesel engine which is the most fuel efficient in its segment promising 19.27 kmpl.

It sports a 66 liter fuel tank and fuel efficiency and reduced auto emissions are achieved thanks to the ECO start/stop feature being offered. The engine offers 125 kW peak power at 3,000-4,200rpm and peak torque of 400 Nm at 1,400-2,800 rpm. Acceleration from 0 to 100 kmph is achieved in 7.4 seconds while the vehicle can reach a top speed of 233 kmph.

Mercedes Benz Chakan, Pune plant was set up in 2009 and is spread over an area of 100 acres. This facility is rated as the company’s top most production plants in the world with the largest installed capacity of 20,000 units per annum. As on date five of the company models are produced from this plant which includes the C-Class, E-Class and S-Class luxury sedans besides M-Class and GL-Class luxury SUVs.
