2019 Mercedes CLA debuts with Hey Mercedes – India launch later this year?

The entry level, four door Mercedes-Benz CLA Class sedan gets bigger, better and safer. It has been revealed at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Second generation CLA now measures 4,688mm long, 1,830mm wide, thus making it 48mm longer and 53mm wider than its current counterpart.

Wheelbase has also been increased by 30mm resulting in a more spacious cabin. In terms of exterior design makeup, new CLA gets the same design language as seen on CLS. It features new headlamps, a wider front grille and narrower tail lamps for a wider rear stance.

New Mercedes CLA gets an Energizing Package Plus that made its initial debut on the GLE. This uses the air conditioning and seat heating, ventilation and massage to create a system tailored to each individual user. The system is in sync with the passenger’s Garmin health tracking device to track stress levels and quality of sleep etc.

A notable interior feature is that the new CLA gets Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) system which includes ‘Hey Mercedes’ voice recognition control that enables occupants to interact with the vehicle. MBUX also sports gesture controls via a freestanding widescreen display that stretches from the driver’s information display to the center of the dashboard. More about Hey Mercedes in the video below.

Mercedes Benz CLA displayed at the CES 2019 is powered by a 2.0 litre, 4 cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine offering 222 hp power and 350 Nm torque mated to a 7 speed dual clutch transmission. The CLA set to go on sale globally, will be presented with both petrol and diesel engine options. It could launch in Europe in May while launch in US markets is scheduled for the end of 2019.

In terms of safety, new CLA Coupe will get semi autonomous function, active emergency stop assist, active lane change assist and active brake assist among others. CLA Coupe will be manufactured at Mercedes’ Kecskemet plant in Hungary. It is set for launch in India sometime in the 2019-20 financial year, following launch of the Mercedes A Class sedan. The current CLA is priced from Rs.31.72-36.99 lakhs and the new model should naturally arrive with a higher price tag. Mercedes CLA Coupe will rival Audi A3.
