New-gen Mercedes Benz E Class debuts at 2016 NAIAS

Sharing exterior design language with new Mercedes C-Class and S-Class, the new Mercedes Benz E Class grows in length as compared to its earlier counterpart. Now measuring 193.8 inches long, around 1.7 inches more than its earlier model, 2017 Mercedes E Class also sits on a longer wheelbase increased by 2.6 inches to now stand at 115.7 inches. This results in added interior space.

Interiors will sport a pair of 12.3” LCD screens. Of this one will function as an instrument cluster while the other is purely for infotainment. Evident in its interiors are new Touch Control surfaces situated on the steering wheel which responds to horizontal and vertical swipe function much like that seen on a Smartphone. COMAND Online infotainment system Qi wireless charging and Burmester 3D surround sound system with 23 speakers will also be seen in the interiors of the new E-Class.

This fifth generation Mercedes Benz E Class which is being offered with only two models E 200 and E 220d will see three more models E 350 d, E 350 e and E 400 4MATIC launched later. E 200 will be powered by a 2.0 liter four cylinder engine generating 184 PS and 300 Nm, while E 220d’s 2.0 liter 4-cyl will deliver 195 PS and 400 Nm. In North America, it will only get a single 2.0 liter 4 cyl petrol engine generating 245 PS and 370 Nm.

Features on board the new E-Class include remote parking via a smartphone app while Car-to-X communication network will offer warnings to the E-Class besides other cars in the network. MultiBeam LED headlights with 84 individually controlled LEDs will also be a part of the distinctive features.

No pricing of the new Mercedes E-Class has been announced as on date. Launch is slated for Spring 2016 in UK while US markets will receive the new Mercedes E-Class in summer of 2016.
