Mercedes Benz GLA crossover spied in India
Mercedes Benz India has already started accepting orders for the new GLA compact crossover which is due for a launch by October this year. Currently, Mercedes Benz is giving the GLA final touches before official launch. Recently, it was spied in Pune while getting ferried, probably to the ARAI facility.
Mercedes GLA crossover concept was unveiled at 2013 Shanghai Auto Show. To be brought in as a CBU (Completely Built-up Unit), the new GLA spied on test made a notable first impression. It is based on Mercedes Front Wheel Architecture also seen on A Class and bears rugged looks and aggressive styling. Local assembly of GLA will take place at a later time.
Interiors of the GLA are also similar to that seen on board the A Class with a three spoke steering wheel, new COMAND system and SLS-inspired AC vents. It also sports higher ground clearance, body cladding, skid plates and roof rails adding to its aggressive stance. Where engine specifications are concerned, the soon to be launched Mercedes GLA crossover will be powered by a 2.2 liter diesel engine offering 167 bhp power and 350 Nm torque mated to a 7 speed gearbox.
Mercedes Benz India dealers have started accepting booking of the new Mercedes Benz GLA crossover against an advance payment of INR 1 lakh. Expected price is slated to range between INR 25-30 lakhs with deliveries to be effected by October. Once launched, the Mercedes Benz GLA crossover will compete with the likes of Audi Q3, BMW X1 and Volvo V40 Cross Country.
