Mercedes Benz has stated that they will continue using the R134a refrigerant in their passenger cars due to serious concerns where the R1234yf refrigerant is concerned. Serious safety concerns where the new variant is concerned has made Mercedes Benz not take any chances and stick to the more established and tested R134a.

It is this refrigerant that has found favor with international auto companies and has proved to be not only safe but climate friendly as well, besides the fact that it has been put through a series of lab tests and crash tests by international vehicle manufacturers. The new R1234yf has also been put to tests but the R134a refrigerant did not result in ignition and it is for these high safety reasons that Mercedes Benz has shown its intentions to continue to use this refrigerant in all their vehicles.

R134a is also known as Tetrafluoroethane and is from the family of HFC refrigerants. It is currently used widely in air conditioning systems in new automobiles and is safe for normal handling as it is non toxic, non flammable and non corrosive.
