Mercedes Benz S400L Hybrid exempted from all taxes in Malaysia
Mercedes Benz S400L Hybrid was launched in Malaysia along with two more variants on 25th March 2014. The Hybrid S Class is being assembled locally in Malaysia while other two full time oil burners are imported as CBU. In addition to certain amount of subsidies the S400L received, it is now awarded with complete duty cuts.
Mercedes Benz S400L gives high end luxury car seekers the chance to take pride of owning and plying in a green car. Similar duty exemption was seen given to Honda Jazz Hybrid (CKD). The 2014 National Automotive Policy (NAP) of Malaysia has made this relaxation possible, and have extended this courtesy to CBU hybrid cars of all engine displacements. This is unlike the previous issues of NAP which granted duty exemptions for hybrid cars with maximum engine displacement of 2.0 litres only. This 2014 NAP will save CKD hybrids from being slapped with import or excise duties only till 31st December 2015.
The Hybrid Mercedes Benz S400L includes almost every feature that belongs to the highest of S Class. Exterior gets LED Intelligent Light System head lamps by default replacing the stock LED High Performance kits. Interior boasts cool features like Air Balance perfume atomisation kit, Thermotronic Climate Control, Nappa leather wrapped steering wheel, double-screen instrumentation binnacle design, 12.3-inch high-resolution TFT screens and 590-watt 13-speaker Burmester Surround Sound music system. The rear row has three seats in Malaysian S400L, cabin space across all directions is increased by few millimetres.
The driver can enjoy tech bundles like Driving Assistance Package Plus, which consists of Distronic Plus with Steering Assist and Stop&Go Pilot, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist, Brake Assist BAS PLUS with Cross-Traffic Assist and Pre-Safe Brake with pedestrian detection. Like these weren’t enough, the list continues to Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus, Crosswind Assist, Attention Assist and Night View Assist Plus. The S400L is equipped with 8 airbags, including standard seatbelt bag equipped as standard in Malaysian models.
Mercedes Benz S400L Hybrid hides a 3.5 litre direct injection naturally aspirated V6 engine under its bonnet, sharing space with an electric motor integrated between the engine and 7G Tronic Plus transmission. The engine produces 306 hp max. power and 370 Nm peak torque, whereas the electors motor contributes 27 hp and 250 Nm. The S400L Hybrid sprints from 0 to 100 kmph in 6.8 seconds with top speed of 250 kmph. Combined fuel efficiency returns 6.3 litres per 100 km or 15.9 kmpl approx.
