Mercedes Benz swoops over Goodwood House with 90m sculpture

Mercedes Benz is celebrating 120 years in motorsport and their joy is clearly evident from this 160 ton sculpture they have erected over the Goodwood House for this year’s Festival of Speed.

mercedes benz goodwood 2014 (1)Every year, select car makers with rich motorsport history are given a chance to showcase their achievements at the annual Goodwood Festival. This year it is Mercedes Benz, who is also celebrating their 120 years in motorsport.

The structure is one of the biggest Goodwood has seen till date. It measures 90 meters in length and swoops across the Goodwood House, highest point being 26 meters. This sculpture spans 45 meters across, and was unveiled by Head of Mercedes-Benz Classic, Michael Bock, and Lord March.

Based on Gerry Judah’s concept, this sculpture tries to display Mercedes Benz’ motorsport history. On it you can see two cars, one that is a replica of 1934 Mercedes-Benz W 25 Silver Arrow, and the other is the same chassis which Lewis used for his car in 15 of the 2013 Formula 1 Grand Prix’s.
