Mercedes Benz to launch Made-in-India S Class diesel on 5th June
Mercedes S 350 CDI opened for bookings a few days back, the company has announced to launch the limo on June 5th 2014. The diesel variant of mighty new S class is expected to be priced over Rs. 1.2 crore. Launch price of Mercedes Benz S 500 L petrol was Rs. 1.57 crores (ex-showroom Delhi), which then was revised to Rs. 1.36 crores (ex-showroom Mumbai) when production was made local in March.
The S 350 CDI will store a 3.0 litre (2987cc) V6 turbo diesel engine under its bonnet, that produces maximum power of 258 bhp at 3,600 rpm and peak torque of 620 Nm from 1,600 to 2,400 rpm. A 7G-Tronic Plus automatic transmission system transfers power to rear wheels of the S 350. The luxury limo can dash from 0 to 100 kmph in 6.8 seconds, and is capable of recording top speed of 250 kmph limited electronically.
The Completely Knocked Down (CKD) Mercedes Benz S 350 CDI will be assembled at Mercedes India’s Chakan plant near Pune. The new diesel S class might not be given all belts and whistles boasted by the superior S 500 L. Those features that could be given a miss include individual rear seats, rear arm rest mounted table at the centre, cup holders with heating and cooling facility, night vision kit and 360 degree reverse camera.
Competitors of new Mercedes Benz S class will include Audi A8 L, Jaguar XJ L, and BMW 7 Series. The former two were launched in the past month for a starting price of Rs 1.12 crores and Rs 92.1 lakhs respectively, while the latter was launched at a starting price of Rs 92.90 lakhs in April last year.
Mercedes S 350 diesel can be booked for an advance payment of Rs. 5 lakhs, and deliveries can be expected to commence by July 2014. Detailed information, specification and price of S 350 will be disclosed on June 5 2014, along with some surprise announcements by the company.
