Meritor employees volunteer to empower people in need
Suppliers of drivetrain, mobility, braking and aftermarket solutions for commercial vehicle and industrial markets, Meritor, Inc. is celebrating the it’s 3rd annual Global Service Day on March 7. Meritor serves commercial truck, trailer, off-highway, defense, specialty and aftermarket customers globally.
Also celebrating International Women’s Day, Meritor (NYSE: MTOR) employees in 10 countries are making a difference for people in need. Employees in Brazil, Canada, China, India, Italy, Mexico, the Netherlands, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States have volunteered to collect food and clothing, clean and repair property, hold fundraisers, prepare meals and host other activities to aid local charities.
“International Women’s Day celebrates the economic, political and social achievements of women all over the world, yet doesn’t lose sight of the fact that many still need help with education, health issues and shelter from violence,” said Sandra Quick, senior vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary for Meritor and co-executive sponsor of the Women’s Business Resource Group (WBRG), which organizes Global Service Day. “During Global Service Day, Meritor employees are helping women, children and others in need right in their own communities.”
In 2013, employees at 23 sites put in more than 560 hours of volunteer time to collect more than 1,300 pounds of food and $14,000 for nonprofit agencies. This helped provide safe shelter for 19 abused women and children in Brampton, Ontario, Canada, support a single mother with two children for at least two months in Amsterdam, and provide women with job interviewing skills and collect clothing and food for families in Troy, Mich., United States among other things.
