Michael Schumacher at Nürburgring Nordschleife for Mercedes-AMG Performance Drive
At the start of the 41st ADAC Zurich 24 hour endurance race at Nürburgring on 19th May, Michael Schumacher, and MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula 1 driver Nico Rosberg took part in a Mercedes-AMG Performance Drive that was unique in every sense.
A truly unbelievable scene unfolded with the Formula 1 Silver Arrow checking the mettle of other Mercedes AMG cars at Nordschleife. 4 Mercedes AMG road cars and Silver Arrow F1 car with Schumacher in the cockpit set off at pre-set intervals. The idea was to ensure all 5 cars reached finish line at more or less the same time. The car to set off was the A 45 AMG driven by Bernd Mayländer at precisely 3.30pm from in front of the Mercedes-Benz grandstand giving the 360hp machine a head-start.
Next on was an E 63 AMG S Model driven by Karl Wendlinger, followed by the yellow SLS AMG Black Series with Nico Rosberg at the wheel. This was followed by an SLS AMG GT3 driven by Bernd Schneider, and the last to depart was Michael Schumacher in the 2011 Formula 1 Silver Arrow, a 750-bhp Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 W02.
The brilliant display at Nürburgring Nordschleife saw the cars reach finish line as planned, and was also a back drop for what can be termed a perfect photo-op. After reaching destination, the vehicles did pull up next to each other in a planned manner ensuring that all 5 vehicles stood abreast at one point. It was also an opportune occasion to send out ‘Save the Ring’ messages loud and clear. Fans cheered loud as Schumacher used the opportunity to thank fans with a Nürburgring Nordschleife.
