2015 MINI Cooper S India launch price is Rs 34.65 lakhs

The sporty Mini Cooper S is now launched in India. Priced at Rs 34.65 lakhs, ex-showroom; it is the most expensive 3 door MINI hatch on offer in India.

Sitting on 16” alloy wheels, Mini Cooper S is seen with an oval shaped front grille, headlights with LED rings and deeper front bonnet. It is powered by a new 2.0 liter four cylinder twin turbo engine, capable of 189 bhp peak power at 4,700 rpm and 300 Nm peak torque at 1,250 rpm.

This engine is mated to a choice of 6 speed manual (no on) or 6 speed automatic transmissions in the UK, while in India it is only the automatic transmission which will be on offer. Cooper S can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 6.7 seconds and hit a top speed of 233 kmph. Power is sent to the front wheels, while kerb weight stands at 1250 kgs.

Mini Cooper S hatchback sits on a BMW new UKL front wheel drive platform which will also be seen on the upcoming BMW 1 Series. This modular architecture is seen on over 12 models of the BMW Group. It offers superior drive experience to premium hatchbacks by increasing overall volume of the car.

Mini Cooper S hatchback will come into India as a CBU. The only CKD Mini available in India right now is the Countryman diesel. Apart from Mini Cooper S, other Mini models on offer in India includes Cooper D 3 door for Rs 32.65 lakhs, Cooper D 5 door for Rs 36.10 lakhs, Convertible for Rs 36.70 lakhs, and MINI D Countryman for Rs 28.55 lakhs.

At the launch, BMW India said, Cooper S is at the core of the company branding in India. It caters to a niche segment of buyers in the country due to its CBU portfolio. However, buyers in India are on the rise with Mini India having sold over 1,000 units since the brand was launched in the country in 2012.
