Update:Mobilio vs Ertiga vs Innova vs Evalia vs Enjoy

Honda Mobilio was launched today in India, a new entrant to the MPV segment. Though it is labelled primarily as Maruti Ertiga rival, Mobilio will go beyond as well, to assail Toyota Innova. Much like other machines in Honda’s stable, Mobilio’s entry will influence buyers to shift segment, thanks to a lot of factors that will be mentioned down the page. It is likely that¬†rest of MPVs surviving in under Rs. 10 lakh bracket will take a hit.

Mobilio vs ertiga innova enjoy evaliaTurf war of 7 seater MPV segment chiefly consists of Japanese car lords like Honda, Toyota, Suzuki, Nissan and of course an American as well, Chevrolet. When Mobilio launches, there is going to be serious fluctuation on sales charts as combat between Mobilio, Ertiga, Innova, Evalia and Enjoy would be tight.

First & foremost, why would one¬†go for an MPV? Most likely because you have a big family which will be less comfortable or not possible to accommodate in a sedan. So space and seating would be first priority. Point Toyota. Innova is the biggest of lot and comes with class leading wheelbase. Toyota Innova is also the only car to offer 7 and 8 seating. But Mobilio’s spaciousness must be appreciated, especially when it comes to the price difference between the two (expected to be Rs 2-3 lakhs).

Honda Mobilio RS 5 SideMaruti Ertiga is not as roomy as the aforementioned MPVs, it is best suited for younger third row occupants. Nissan Evalia and Chevrolet Enjoy offers good cabin size as well.

Honda Mobilio vs Maruti ErtigaSecondly, with a car full of passengers, one would need enough room to store all their luggage. Honda Mobilio offers adequate space of 200 litres, that is 65 litres more than what Maruti Ertiga offers. Rest of rivals Innova, Evalia and Enjoy offer more or less the same space as Mobilio does. Hence Honda beats its arch-adversary Ertiga in this round.

Toyota recalling Innova built between 2005 and 2008 in IndiaNow that the MPVs are loaded with friends, family, possibly pets too and boot with baggage, third important factor in choosing an MPV would be performance and drivability. Some would have good reason to opt for petrol variant despite diesel offering better fuel economy. In that case, Nissan Evalia would go missing from the comparo. For those who would prefer factory made CNG powered MPV, Maruti Ertiga would pose with a grin as none others have that for option.

Speaking of petrol MPVs, Toyota Innova has biggest engine compared to others, obviously with highest power and torque figures. Since it is slightly a segment upwards and also the most expensive, discounting Innova, we have Honda Mobilio as better choice, as now it has highest engine displacement, power and torque ratings. Reputation of 1.5 litre i-VTEC is already known through Honda City sedan. Next more powerful MPV is Chevrolet Enjoy, followed by Maruti Ertiga.

toyota innova facelift z variant diesel spyshot (2)Diesel MPVs are usually more preferred, in which topic Honda Mobilio is on par with Toyota Innova, with very close power and torque readings. Maruti Ertiga and Nissan Evalia share same peak torque value with Mobilio and Innova, but they loose out on maximum power count. Evalia follows Ertiga; Chevrolet Enjoy stands last.

new nissan evalia india (5)Fourth ingredient is mileage. Official fuel efficiency figure of Toyota Innova is not declared, but fleet owners reveal it to be at 8-10 kmpl. Arranging rest of MPVs in order of high to low mileage, we see Honda Mobilio on top, both diesel and petrol versions, then Maruti Ertiga again both, Nissan Evalia is third in diesel comparison and last in both engine options, we see Chevrolet Enjoy. Check table below for official figures.

cheverolet-enjoyFifth and last decision influencing attribute is price. Price of Honda Mobilio will be revealed during end of month launch. Honda has hinted that Mobilio will be positioned between Ertiga and Innova, indicating price will be up north of Ertiga but not by a leap. With present stats, Chevy Enjoy is most affordable in petrol and diesel versions, followed by Maruti Ertiga, Nissan Evalia Diesel and the priciest is Toyota Innova.
