The race started in dry conditions, with rain catching up in lap 45 of 55 laps. The Lenovo Team Impul driver terms it a crazy race, and at one point raced at 3rd place for a few laps.
The rain saw some cars stop for wet tyres, others stayed out hoping for rain to stop so the track dried out. Narain was on slick tyres in the rain, and used his experience to drive up to third place in a span of 3 laps, and stayed behind the Safety Car following incidents on track. Rain intensified as the safety car went in with 4 laps remaining.
It was an opportune moment for cars on wet tyres to charge forward. Narain finished 7th, just behindthis year’s 24 hour Le Mans winner Andre Lotterer. making calls in the last wet laps was situational. If Narain was to switch to wet tyres and the race was red-flagged or finished behind the safety car, Lenovo Team Impul would not have finished in points. Qualifying in a better position would have given Narain a chance to finish on podium. Super Formula championship Round Four is scheduled at Twin Ring Motegi circuit on August 24.
