BMW 7 Series and not Mahindra Scorpio for Indian PM, Narendra Modi
Many hoped that Narendra Modi, India’s 15th Prime Minister, to chose Mahindra Scorpio over BMW 7 Series as his official vehicle. But, the Special Protection Group (SPG), in charge of Prime Minister’s and his next of kin’s security, has zeroed in on BMW 760Li High Security Edition.
Anand Mahindra Mahindra Group Chairman and Pawan Goenka, President of Automotive Division respectively, were eager to custom build Scorpio for Narendra Modi as per SPG’s statutes and requirements of Prime Minister’s motorcade. They also considered this opportunity to bring pride for the company and country as well.
But Special Protection Group decided to go with BMW 7 Series, as they did with former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The BMW 760Li High Security Edition is claimed to be the safest vehicle in India, capable of protecting occupants from almost everything the enemies can throw at it, like swarming bullets and loud bombs. The car unlike in Indian films, is designed to not explode and reach sky high when the fuel tank is fired upon. The cabin of 760Li gets sealed and becomes a gas proof chamber when gas attack is attempted. Also, the Beemer can continue to run on flat tyres for very long, and misdirect missiles and IEDs using high-tech heat sensors and toys we are not supposed to know about.
We don’t know if Q is behind all the installations in Narendra Modi’s custom 760Li, but we’re sure James Bond would want to check it out. If he does, remind him not to push any buttons and bring it back in one piece!
Even though Modi’s new BMW 7 Series is cool and comparable to Bond’s, Modi will not be sitting behind the wheels and smirking at villains like Bond does! BMW has its own Professional Training course to teach wannabe James Bond drivers to keep control of these custom crafted vehicles under high-risk driving conditions. They will be trained to perform extreme tactical escape manoeuvres (even in reverse) to flee from attacking vehicles.
In conversation with Mr Philipp von Sahr, President, BMW Group India yesterday at the all-new BMW X5 launch, he jovially reiterated that this time around BMW faced competition not from its usual competitors, but the Scorpio.
Maximum power produced by BMW 760Li High Security Edition is 439bhp, to accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 7.5 seconds via 6 speed automatic transmission.
