Chevrolet Sail hatchback, the all new small car from GM India, readies itself for Indian car market. This hatchback is the joint efforts of Chevrolet Sales India Pvt. Ltd., a subdivision of General Motors along with their Chinese partners SAIC which was earlier seen at the 2012 Indian Auto Show.
General Motors’ Chevrolet Sail in India, is seen as direct competition against the Maruti Suzuki Swift. The company has successfully launched the Tavera, Captiva and Cruze in India while Enjoy MPV will arrive later this year. Chevrolet is expected to launch the sedan version of Sail U-VA hatchback in India at a later stage, replacing the outdated Chevrolet Aveo.
Chevrolet will launch Sail U-VA in both petrol and diesel. 2012 Chevrolet Sail petrol is powered by the same 1.2L mill found in Chevrolet Beat, generating 80 PS power and 108 Nm torque. The diesel Sail U-VA will be powered by 1.3L MultiJet generating 78 PS power and 205 Nm torque. Interiors and exterior design of Chevrolet Sail will see more modern devices and features while prices are expected to be in the Rs.4 lakhs to Rs 6 lakhs category.
Both, Chevrolet Sail Petrol and Chevrolet Sail Diesel feature a five speed manual gearbox. As per ARAI, petrol Sail will deliver a mileage of 18.2 kmpl and the diesel Sail will deliver a mileage of 22.1 kmpl.
