After being absent for the most popular Auto Expo in the country, Ford is all set to grace the users with its new small car in March. As per the invites, Michael Boneham, president and MD of Ford India, and Joe Hinrichs, group VP, Ford Motor company would be part of the release part at Hotel Taj Palace in new Delhi.
Based on the same platform as fiesta, Ford Figo has been built in India and will be exported to the AP and Africa regions. It has also been heard that the demo version is already available to customers and the bookings can be made as well. But, customers will not be able to do a test drive on this machine.
The four variants the car is expected in are for both petrol and diesel engine options - base (LXI), mid (EXI), upper-mid (SXI) and high end (called platinum). The hatchback car will be available in seven colors, namely Diamond white, Panther Black, Moondust Silver, Chille, Sea Grey, Squeeze and Colorad Red.
The car has been created keeping in mind the Indian roads and traffic conditions. The car will boast of a 1.2L Rocam engine ( known as Duratec for new customers) or a 1.4L diesel engine (Duratorg). The petrol version will produce 70bhp at 6250 rpm, while the diesel version will produce 68bhp at 4000rpm.
The first Figo model was showcased early September last year in Delhi. The company is already spending US$500 million at its Chennai plant to meet the 2 lakh units' production target.
